When it comes to sweet bakes, I never run out of flavour combos and ideas but when I start looking for a new savoury bake my mind goes blank.
There are only so many things you can do with cheese and tomatoes and believe me I’ve done them all!
Then last week, whilst scanning my fridge for inspiration I came across a jar of Kimchi which I’d brought purely for self consumption. I chopped it up, sprinkled it over my bun dough, rolled, chopped then baked it. The result was a sweet and spicy savoury bun with a little crunch, since then I’ve added cream cheese to the base to add a little ‘moistness’ and cheddar for an extra level of umami.
These buns are my dad’s new favourite breakfast and I hope they become yours too!
